Capcom has announced that the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, as well as Resident Evil 7, are coming to new-gen consoles this year.

RE2, RE3 and RE7 will be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. You can currently play all games via backwards compatibility, however, with these ports, we will get all the new-gen bells and whistles.

Each of the new-gen ports will include ray-tracing, higher framerates and loading times. Furthermore, the PS5 version will take advantage of 3D audio as well as the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

Additionally, those that already own the last-gen versions will also be gifted with the new-gen upgrade for free. Happy days! An upgrade patch with all the improvements will also be available for PC at no additional cost. At this time, I don’t know if save data and trophies/achievements will crossover, but I have contacted Capcom to clarify.

Hopefully, trophies will carry over, because I have the Platinum for RE2, and I’ve nearly earned the Platinum for RE3 and RE7. However, regardless, if all else fails, I can’t wait to play these new-gen ports.

Interestingly, there’s still no word on when Resident Evil Re:Verse will arrive. Not that I’m overly excited for that game, but it’s intriguing that Capcom seems to be ignoring its existence before it’s even released.
