Sony officially announces the PlayStation 5 Slim and it’s soon
Following months of rumours and speculation, Sony has finally announced the PlayStation 5 Slim with a twist.
What’s more, rumours have been circulating that Sony will launch a PS5 with a detachable disc drive and that too is true. In a nutshell, as with the original PS5 consoles, we will have the choice of a console with or without a disc drive. However, if you choose the digital console, you can purchase the disc drive separately at a later date if you want to upgrade.
Furthermore, not only will the new versions of the PS5 consoles be reduced in volume by more than 30%, and weight by 18% and 24% in comparison to previous models, but it will now come with an increased 1TB SSD. The previous model had an 825GB SSD, but only 667.2GB will be usable once data for core system files and the operating system are taken into account. So presumably, the new slim model will have around 842.8 of usable storage space.

U.S
- PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – $499.99

If you want to purchase the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive at a later date it will cost you £99.99/€119.99/$79.99. Unfortunately, neither of the new PS5 consoles will come with a vertical stand, unlike the previous models. Instead, you will need to pay £24.99/€29.99/$29.99 for the newly designed vertical stand.
It’s also worth mentioning that Sony states that the previous PS5 models will not be restocked once they are all sold. So at some point, you’ll only be able to buy the new slim model at retail. However, you will no doubt be able to pay for second-hand consoles if you want to save some money.
The new PlayStation 5 Slim will be sold via PlayStation Direct as well as select retailers this November.
