Last month, the speculation floodgates were blown wide open when 2K registered trademarks for a Mafia II: Definitive Edition and as I found out soon after, they also registered a trademark for a Mafia III: Definitive Edition.  Personally as a fan of this series and in particular the second game, I’m all for a remaster of Mafia II with jazzed up visuals and framerate, with all previously released DLC as an added bonus.

Mafia III however is an odd one, considering it’s a current-gen title.  This in my opinion was a game that had all the potential to be a great game, but with its repetitive mission design and supporting characters not being quite as compelling as previous games, not to mention that it was full of bugs at launch, the game not only lost much of its series identity, but it also wasn’t a particularly good game (as reflected in my review).

However, following the 2K trademarks, after almost two years of lying dormant, the official Mafia social media pages have suddenly sprung to life with the simple world “Family”.  So while this sudden spring to life offers no current details, it is safe to assume that a Mafia announcement is imminent and when that announcement is made, we’ll update you as soon as possible.

Are you excited at the potential announcement and would you like to see remasters of all three games in the series or a new game entirely, perhaps even both?  Let us know across our social media channels.
