Celebrities You Would Not Expect To Be Gamers

Video Games are, to many, a geek’s way to pass time. But us gamers know better, and it’s so much more than that; gaming is a way of life. And this is something that some of the most talented and iconic celebrities of the world know only too well. Here are some of them that may surprise you.

Jodie Foster:

Despite being one of the most highly acclaimed actresses in Hollywood, with several Academy Award nominations and two Oscars, as well as starring in some of the most iconic films in cinematic history including The Silence of the Lambs and Taxi Driver; Jodie still makes time to feed her habit as a self-confessed gaming enthusiast. She’s openly expressed her love for Guitar Hero, declaring it her favourite game:

“I have no music ability. I tried in my life. I tried to learn the trumpet, that wasn’t so good. The good thing about Guitar Hero is you can just (press the buttons and) go ‘blue, green, green, green, blue, green, green…'”

Megan Fox:

90% of her time, the Transformers babe will be standing around looking pretty in front of the cameras. Whereas the remaining time she has goes towards ripping people’s heads and limbs off (ahem, virtually ripping someone’s heads and limbs off that is):

“Anything Mortal Kombat. I have that down and I don’t cheat. That game just works well with my brain. The way my brain fires signals work well with how that game works. And I’m just really good.”

Megan Fox maybe hot, but the fact she’s a female gamer only makes her even hotter.

John Cena:

He may remind you of one of those guys you are too embarrassed to be around when you work out in the gym. But the World Wrestling superstar is openly shown his passion for real-time strategic gaming, and that kicking-ass in the ring is not his only sport:

“Command & Conquer is my favourite game of all time. I’ll talk trash about Tecmo Bowl; I’ll talk trash about Baseball Stars, about Madden before Madden was way too complicated. Command & Conquer, I’ve been playing it since Tiberian Sun.”

All I can advise is that if you ever get to play Command & Conquer with him; for your own sake, let him win.

Jessica Alba:

Here’s another Hollywood babe proving that Video Games have come a long way from the negative stigma of unsociable, overweight youngsters that would sooner pick u a gamepad than a book. The American actress, known for Sin City and the big-screen adaptation of Fantastic 4, is all about the classics:

“I grew up playing Bomberman and Pac-Man and Super Mario Brothers and Zelda, where you had just this little guy who could barely walk and the music was like doot… doot… doot….I just got the Wii and that’s fun. I play all of the Wii Sports games, like bowling, tennis, and baseball. That’s a lot of fun.”

Vin Diesel:

Excluding WWE Champion, John Cena; Vin Diesel is probably the only man in the world you wouldn’t dare call a nerd. The muscle-bound actor said that he regularly played the classic Dungeons and Dragons in his early years, and has since “moved on with the generation” as a big fan of the MMO epic, World of Warcraft. Considering Vin Diesel is such a badass, and says that his WoW character is “deadly”, you’d better believe it. So if you want fast and furious success for your guild (yeah, I went there), Mr. Riddick is a safe choice.

Vin Diesel even found success in actual appearances in video games, including Wheelman and The Chronicles of Riddick.

Robin Williams:

When you actually put it into perspective; World renowned actor and comedian Robin Williams (No, not Robbie) is such a huge gamer it’s unreal. Back in 2006, he appeared at the E3 expo to demonstrate the creature editor software feature in the multi-genre god game Spore. And in that same year, performed at the Consumer Electronics Show. That’s all well and good, but can any of you tell me that you’ve named your child after one of the biggest video game characters of all time… say… Zelda? No, me neither.

Kudos to you, sir. Kudos.

Julia Roberts:

She maybe talented enough to be one of the highest paid actresses in history, with over 30 different awards and just as many nominations, but the Pretty Woman herself is a huge fan of the epic sci-fi FPS series, Halo:

“I have stayed up all night playing Xbox. The only game I play is Halo. It’s the only game I know how to play. And I’m not very good at it, but I will play it obsessively.”

We appreciate your honesty and passion, Miss. Roberts. We salute you.

Jenny McCarthy:

She’s clever enough to be a bestselling author. She’s compassionate enough to be an activist for autism. She’s talented enough to be a Hollywood actress. And she’s gorgeous enough to be former Playboy Playmate of the Year. Down on paper, Jenny McCarthy sounds like the perfect woman. But that’s not all; the blonde bombshell is also an avid gamer, with one of her favourite games of all time being the original Pac-Man, which she started playing at the age of eight, and never looked back:

“Let me tell you something; that was my game. We had a gaming thing going on in my block where I was the champion. I even made my own Atari glove because I had blisters all over my hand from playing Pac-Man.”

And she continues to play games today:

“I do a little bit of tennis with the Wii. That’s how I get my workout these days. My mom has started a bowling league on the Wii. I’m not kidding. They have t-shirts and they come over every Friday. Sometimes I bowl with her and her senior citizen friends. It’s fun. It’s something to do that’s interactive instead of just watching boring TV.”

McCarthy not only plays games, but stars in them too. In 2008, she played the role of super-sexy Agent Tanya in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3.

Wow… just… wow!

Angelina Jolie:

Even with her goddess-like exterior, Angelina Jolie is just as human as the rest of us, as it is alleged that she is addicted to the most popular game on iTunes (like the rest of us), Angry Birds. Sources say that Miss. Lara Croft herself became addicted to the game during breaks on the set of Kung Fu Panda 2, where she plays the voice of Tigress (make an educated guess what animal she could be). It is also apparent that her competitive streak put some of the crew on edge, and didn’t dare to challenge her, because in case they beat her, she would demand a rematch.

Come on, what’s the point of being a gamer if you are not going to have any kind of competitive attitude? Angelina has the right idea, she’s a real gamer.
