After 25 long years, GamesMaster Magazine has been the most popular multi-format gaming magazine in the UK, sadly however, this month’s magazine will be its last.  It’s a sad day for sure for all those that have worked on the magazine over the years and I’m sure loyal fans will share the same sentiment.  Personally, since its existence in 1993, it’s been easily my favourite gaming magazine and I still own some of those early copies to this day.  The GamesMaster name also rose to popularity with its awesome TV show from the 90’s, where children would rush home from school to ensure they don’t miss their favourite TV show.

GamesMaster is under the Future PLC banner and among their many magazines, it is also joined by another popular multi-format gaming print in the UK, GamesTM.  Sadly (another magazine I subbed too), Games TM’s time is also coming to an end, this month.  GamesTM has been running since 2002.

Future PLC said in a statement:

Despite the company’s strong performance overall, unfortunately games™ and GamesMaster are no longer profitable parts of the business, which means that their next issues, on sale November 1st, will be the final editions,” and they added “The decision was an extremely difficult one, but everyone here is enormously proud of what the magazines have achieved in their lifetimes – an incredible 25 years in GamesMaster’s case – and we are currently redeploying affected staff within the company.

Thankfully, Future PLC has plenty of gaming magazines in their portfolio, such as the Official PlayStation and Xbox magazines, as well PC Gamer and Edge to name but a few.  They also own the website Gamesradar, and staff affected by the end of GamesMaster and GamesTM will be spread out across their various publications, so hopefully their job security should be safe and sound.

Finally all of us at Push-Start would like to thank those that had worked on GamesMaster and GamesTM over all these years.  Thank you and we wish you all well in your future endeavours.
