CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, Jack Tretton, has revealed his opinions regarding the PlayStation Vita’s somewhat lacklustre reception.

As he explained to GamesIndustry.biz (via CVG):

I think there’s an acceptable number – and [the number] we’ve sold: That’s acceptable. If it was triple that, I’d be happier. If it was one-third, I’d be disappointed.

CVG goes on to report that this luke-warm response is not a solitary view. Fergal Gara, the UK CEO, acknowledged that Sony at large would prefer to shift more units, adding:

I think we haven’t quite hit the spot with the killer software just yet and I have every reason to think that will happen in the next few months.

Certainly an interesting remark given the seemingly strong launch line-up presented to the consumer. Possibly even more incendiary are the remarks of Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios, given earlier this week. According to CVG he admitted that the PlayStation business has an “uphill struggle” ahead if it’s to convince publishers to invest in its next-gen portable.

It’s not looking brilliant for the fledgling console as it struggles out of the gate not unlike its uglier older brother. Maybe it’s the concept and not the execution that sits uncomfortably with the public. Triple-A experiences, those which the Vita prides itself on being able to provide, may, in the end, belong in the living room.

That being said, Sony, bring Persona 4: The Golden to the UK and I’ll gladly take a Vita off your hands.
