Netflix announced today that it would expanding its services to include the UK and Ireland in early 2012. An exact date and the price schemes available have yet to be set, as well as confirmation of the content that will be available. Expect it coming to anything connected to the internet, from computers to consoles to smart phones.

As much as I enjoy watching TV shows its going to pretty much take Netflix’s current online library (such as Buffy, The X-files and Stargate SG-1) to make it across the pond to pique my interest, if they were to stick with British  shows due to licensing it would be a real shame. Its often easy enough to find something on demand or is old enough to be bought cheaper than a subscription. Fingers crossed that the closer we get to launch the more attractive a service this becomes.
