Horizon Zero Dawn becomes best selling IP on PS4 and expansion teased?

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that PS4 exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn has shifted more than 2.6 million copies worldwide, making it not only the most successful new IP yet since the PS4 launched in 2013, but also the best selling debut title for Killzone developers; Guerrilla Games.

Horizon Zero Dawn has only been available for little over two weeks, so selling that amount of copies already is impressive work, especially as we still have so much of this year to go.  Horizon Zero Dawn has received high critical and consumer acclaim, making it hands down a Game of the Year contender.

Chairman of SIE Worldwide Studios, Shawn Layden had this to say on the impressive milestone:

We knew Horizon Zero Dawn was going to be something special, so to see the incredible critical reaction to a brand new game world translate into this level of sales is really gratifying,” said Shawn Layden, Chairman of SIE Worldwide Studios. “Guerrilla has created a game that is nothing short of exceptional, and the reaction we have seen from fans – from hours and hours of gameplay streaming to endless photo sharing – shows just how impactful it has been.

However, quite possibly the most interesting fact from this announcement, at least from a consumer standpoint, is that developers Guerrilla Games seems to have hinted that they are already working an expansion for the title.  Guerrilla Games Managing Director; Herman Hulst said “This is only the beginning of Aloy’s story and our exploration of the world of Horizon Zero Dawn, with the team already hard at work on an expansion to the story.”  To me this pretty much confirms that we will get an expansion to Horizon Zero Dawn or at the very least a sequel.  As always, we’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
