The Wii U is region locked as confirmed by Nintendo yesterday. This means that gamers who want to buy games from the US and play them on their UK/Europe Wii U will have a hard time trying to do so. Has this put a kink in the launch sales for the Wii U though? It is no lie that availability on the Wii U was always going to be limited somewhat, but it seems to be that all the pre-orders for the Wii U in the US are being snapped up with every day that passes. Mega games retailer GameStop have reportedly closed their pre-orders for the console in the US meaning that if people want the new Nintendo console on launch day they may have to look else where.

But with the recent announcement of Region Locking the console, are people going to have to wait even longer to play on their new Wii U? There is always a possibility of more stock becoming available over time but my advice to readers is if you want to assure yourself the next generation console A.S.A.P, pre-order as soon as you you can. This isn’t the first time Nintendo themselves have region locked one of their consoles, in fact it’s fair to say that most of their consoles are region locked, so this isn’t something new. Compared against other newer consoles, like the PS Vita, players will find Region Free a blessing in disguise. Sony and Microsoft both leave it up to the game designers to determine whether a game will be compatible in one continent or region free. You will find that a lot of games on the rivals consoles will play anywhere in the world – could this be a major advantage over Nintendo with this new console? Only time will tell in the up coming console war, check back soon for news and details.
