SEGA announced in a press release today that one of their main studios, Creative Assembly, are to develop multiple titles in partnership with Games Workshop based on the Warhammer brand. Creative Assembly are most known for their Total War series, a strategy series held in high regard by fans of the genre.

The new Warhammer games, not due til at least 2013 and beyond, mark the birth of a new development team within Creative Assembly to handle the new franchise. This deal also comes on their 25th anniversary, according to studio director Tim Heaton.

I’m sure there are sections of the gaming community who are now drooling at the very prospect, including some friends of mine. It also shows that Sega haven’t *quite* abandoned retail, unless I’m making a bad assumption.
