Destiny: Rise of Iron new gameplay footage and Gjallarwing pre-order bonus revealed

To quote Han Solo “It’s true, all of it”.  Following what some believed to be mere rumours, during a Bungie Twitch stream for Destiny’s next expansion Rise of Iron, they revealed that there will in-fact be a Gjallarhorn themed Sparrow with a sleek black and silver design, named the Gjallarwing.

As revealed during the original Rise of Iron stream, you will not only gain access to a black skinned Gjallarhorn by pre-ordering the expansion, but you will also get the all mighty Gjallarwing, as showcased in the triumphant trailer below.  In the pre-order trailer, it looks like it might have given us a quick glimpse at a new Sparrow Race League track, could this mode be a permanent feature from September 20th?

During the stream we also got to see more of the alternative Cosmodrome Patrol Zone, now called the Plaugelands, which is populated by a mutated form of the Fallen and we see some of the damage that has been done to Old Russia at the hands of the Devil Splicers.  During the gameplay footage we almost got to see an area that we weren’t supposed to, which was unfortunately cut short by Bungie community man Deej, but he promised that this is something that will be saved for later.

The folks at IGN have taken the gameplay from the stream and cut it into one convenient video, as seen below.  It was interesting to see the snow-filled Plaugelands and the Patrol battles that stood once before with relics such as an out of commission Devil Walker.  We also got a glimpse of a technology called SIVA, which has infested the Plaugelands and is said to be behind some of the Devil Splicers mutations.

You can check out the Gjallarwing trailer in all its glory below, as well as the gameplay taken from yesterday’s Twitch stream.

Rise of Iron will release digitally for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 20th and will be priced at £24.99/$39.99.  You can read our review of Destiny: The Taken King here.
