Minecraft 360 1.7.3 Update Details, Release Date and DLC

4J Studios, the team behind the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft, have already stated that the first PC update that they wish to impliment into the console version will be 1.7.3. The question is, when will we see it and what new, shiny things will it bring?

First things first, we haven’t got long to wait. The 1.7.3 Update is due to hit the Xbox 360 on July 17th. Secondly, the 1.7.3 Update will bring with it;

  • Added pistons.
  • Fixed clay generation.
  • Flint and Steel or Redstone is now required to trigger TNT.
  • Fences can be stacked.
  • Added Shears.
  • Redstone wire now will connect to a repeater.
  • Shears can be used to pick up leaf blocks.
  • Shears can be used to shear sheep without hurting them
  • Sheep no longer drop wool from being punched, only from being killed when they are unsheared.
  • New textures for Cobblestone and Brick blocks.
  • Silverfish skin was added (for Beta 1.8).

The most anticipated aspects of this update are the addition of Pistons and the fix made to Clay generation. Pistons are blocks capable of pushing most blocks, depending on the direction they are facing. You can also make Sticky Pistons that have the ability to pull blocks towards it. What you’ll do with those is up to you. As for Clay generation, in the current 1.6.6 build of Minecraft, there was a bug or a glitch which made finding Clay blocks almost impossible. Without Clay, you can’t make Bricks.

Additionally, the 1.7.3 Update will also bring Skin DLC Packs. The image below will give you a good example of what you can expect from this first piece of DLC. They are simply Skins for your Minecraft avatar. The pack is sporting more than 40 additional skins that you will be able to select from. Downloading a trial version will enable adventurers to use some of the skins for free as well as allowing you to see each one before purchasing the full pack. The skins that will be included in the DLC pack are original skins, and a few of them are even inspired by fellow Microsoft gaming properties. The skins you can see below are the Creeper Man, Splosion Man, Trials Man, Covenant Grunt and the King.
