Modern Warfare 3 August Content Detailed

Fans of Modern Warfare 3’s co-operative Spec Ops mode are in for a treat this month. Not too long after receiving the previous “Vertigo” mission, two more are about to be delivered to Elite members this August 9th.

Revealed exclusively to Videogamer, these two missions (Titled “Light ‘Em Up” and “Special Delivery”) sound like they might just be some of the best Special Operations to date. These side missions have always been best when focusing on using the co-operative nature of the mode to its advantage, that is to say splitting the players apart either physically or by role in the mission.

Light ‘Em Up, the first of the two new drops, is set after the main campaign of the game, and sees the SAS tasked with rescuing a downed helicopter pilot. This is accomplished by one player doing the usual run and gun to gather intel and locate the target, whats really exciting though is the role of player two – piloting a Little Bird helicopter. Yes, a fully pilotable chopper, complete with weaponry and spotlights. Though not exactly the first time in the series (there were, after all, a couple of rather exciting rotor-wing stages in Black Ops) it still sounds like a brilliantly fun position to be in.

Special Delivery adds little knew to the Modern Warfare 3 experience, but instead brings multiplayer style elements into a linear objective driven stage. Here one person again puts his boots on the ground, but is now given air support in the form of an Osprey gunner. While not fully pilotable, being in charge of such a large caliber machine gun (and being able to drop care packages to player one) its still another exciting prospect players will be fighting over.

Having been given an Elite membership with the limited edition of the game I can say I got my moneys worth out of all the content drops so far, especially the spec ops missions, and you can colour me excited for these as well. Anytime there’s something exploding and a helicopter is involved it makes that part of my brain that feeds on 70’s/80’s action movies tingle. Really, just any excuse to hum Ride of the Valkyries is OK with me.

I don’t think much of the campaigns in the MW games, but the Spec Ops missions were really well done in MW2, so this makes me a little sad I didn’t pick up MW3. Oh well, Blops 2 looks hot
