New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Be First 3DS Game Available For Download

Now-a-days, games are available through download and through retail. It seems like Nintendo are following this trend as the New Super Mario Bros. 2 game will be available on both cartridge and as a downloadable game throught the Nintendo 3DS eShop.

As New Super Mario Bros. 2 is the first to take this step from Nintendo; there will be others like this. This is just the beginning for Nintendo.

“In principle, starting from this software, the company will offer the software titles that Nintendo itself publishes in both packaged and digital download formats so that our consumers can choose the way to purchase them,” said Iwata. “Since the packaged and the digital download formats both have their own merits, we would like to offer both of these options to our consumers.”

This will also be expanding to the Wii U, with Iwata stating the company “will start the digital download sales of packaged software” from the first day of the Wii U’s launch.

Nintendo plan to sell their titles to retailers, which will come in a 16 code format, allowing the retailers to set a price for the titles.
