Super Stardust HD “Impact” DLC on the way

Super Stardust HD has always been the poster boy for the PlayStation Network; it was one of the first exclusive games on the system that was actually worth talking about, the first PS3 game to implement achievements, one of the first to have stereoscopic 3D and to this day is one of the biggest sellers of all time on the PSN. Basically it was Sony’s exceptionally bad-ass answer to Geometry Wars.

But despite all that you’d still be forgiven for believing that Super Stardust HD had long since rode off into the sunset with it’s mission complete and it’s journey concluded, It has been 3 years after all. Well apparently that’s not the case, because next Wednesday it’s going to see yet another DLC pack!

This new upgrade adds “Impact mode” the premise of which is simple: all your ship’s weapons have now been removed and in their place is a new boost function that extends the duration of your boosts every time you hit an enemy or asteroid. This new system makes absolutely insane multipliers possible which will no doubt take the already bloated high score table to unprecedented heights!

But while I don’t wish to rain on Stardust’s parade or anything, this isn’t exactly a “new” mode as such, something that anyone who picked up the PSP title Super Stardust HD Portable can attest to. It’s rather sad that after all this time they decided to rip functionality from the portable version (which came out well over 2 years ago) rather than develop an entirely new mode or even a straight up sequel. But still, Super Stardust HD still being somehow relevant in 2011? Hell yes!
