Be warned, this article features some minor spoilers, so if you haven’t finished The Last of Us yet, I would advise you not to read on. If you have, please read on and share us your views.

Members of the Naughty Dog team spoke about the potential future DLC for the critically acclaimed The Last of Us and they even spoke about ‘that ending’. Speaking on Reddit, members of the Naughty Dog creative team revealed that there was a split of opinion in regards to The Last of Us ending and that a much happier ending was planned. Personally without giving anything away, as tough as the ending was, I liked it as it raised many questions for the potential sequel.

Here’s what game director Bruce Straley had to say:

Originally, “Ellie and Joel were driving completely contented and satisfied with their adventures off into a glorious sunset,” He then went on to say. “But that didn’t feel right.”

It just wasn’t honest to the world or the characters we created. This ending,(speaking about the ending we all saw) felt right for us, about three or four ideas before finding the ending that worked best for the story we wanted to tell.”

Creative Director Neil Druckmann also revealed that not everyone on the Naughty Dog team originally agreed with the ending, by saying it “didn’t sit well with some members of the team“. He then went on to say “Once it was more fleshed out, it became an easier sell.

Bruce Stranley and Neil Druckmann also revealed that interestingly some alternative ideas will be shown at PAX Prime later this month, so that will be worth keeping a lookout for. Will we see some DVD extra style alternative endings for The Last of Us? We’ll all have to wait and see.

The pair also spoke briefly about the forthcoming DLC, which will release in three parts, two multiplayer and one singleplayer expansions were promised and they will be part of The Last of Us Season Pass.  Not much was given away in terms of the future DLC packs, but they did reveal that details will appear later this month and that the singleplayer DLC will feature some returning characters.

So what do you think of ‘that ending’ and what would you like to see in the future singleplayer and multiplayer DLC? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
