In a post that has since been removed from Digital Spy, rumours abound of a new Resident Evil entry for the Nintendo 3DS. Titled Resident Evil 3D : Degeneration – Damnation – Downfall, it would be a 3DS collection of the CG films (Degeneration and Downfall) along with the previously unheard of Downfall.

Downfall has been rumoured to be a new game in the series, possibly like the small downloadable tie-in for Degeneration, that would follow Resi 2 and Code Veronica protagonist Claire Redfield, and would allow the player to witness the downfall of humanity between Resident Evil 5 and 6. If it plays anything like Revelations then sign me straight up for a purchase.

With the right release window this collection could be an interesting pick-up in the run up to Resident Evil 6 this October, but until an official release this is purely rumour and speculation. As of the time of writing only Degeneration has seen release, with a sole trailer showing off Damnation.

While the films aren’t the greatest in the world they are entertaining entries to the series, with Degeneration following Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield during a viral outbreak at an airport, and Damnation looking to follow Leon again against a BOW attack through a war zone somewhere in Europe. In the lead up to Resi 6, the time when humanity suffers its virus related downfall, these extra entries could allow an interesting perspective, setting up events and showing the fate of unmentioned characters.

Now just to hope for something that follows Barry Burton through it all…

Those interested should keep an eye open for an announcement at E3 this June 5-7.
