This past week saw Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic turn 10 years old and many of the developers who worked on it came together to talk about its impact on them. Now the online world is stirring when an announcement was made about a new RPG IP that Bioware is currently working on. On his twitter page, Casey Hudson wrote:

@CaseyDHudson Most of our core team that worked on SWKOTOR has been together throughout the Mass Effect series, and now our new IP project. #KOTOR10

This new IP will be made by some of BioWare’s most talented developers, including the KOTOR and Mass Effect teams! According to Escapist News, this new IP is a secret. No one has any confirmed ideas on what the game will be about.

Personally, I am excited about this. Unlike some people who insist on frowning upon every project before it comes out the door, I think that the teams will take the opportunity to pull BioWare out of the slumps its been in this past year and make an amazing game. Every developer has  a bad season. It doesn’t matter if you make movies or write novels. Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age 2 could have been better, very few will dispute that. While I love playing Star Wars: The Old Republic, it still has a long way to go as BioWare/EA have to learn to focus on their much wider player base instead of almost solely focusing on the PVE-ers and cartel-shopaholics.

However, the reviews of all the games have come in, and fan feedback has been clear regarding where those games went or wrong./are going wrong.  Therefore, Bioware can take the feedback and channel it towards improvement. Coupled with the fact that BioWare overall has a positive history of bringing to the table excellent RPGs that blow people’s minds away again and again and again, there is no reason why this new IP won’t bring them back to where they were before.

What do you think? Will this fresh start bring BioWare back to where it was before? What do you think this new IP will be about? Will it take place in space, medieval times, or in a completely different setting altogether? Make your thoughts known in the comments below!
