Update: Red Dead Redemption 2 Aliens Expansion and Remake Confirmed as Fake

Update: Well as many of us may have expected, the rumours have been confirmed as fake by the very person responsible for the rumour spreading to begin with.  He said that he was conducting an experiment of “spreading rumours in the video game culture” and fair play to him, it most certainly worked in that respect.

However, while the alien expansion did feel absurd, it had some sense of believability of not putting it passed Rockstar, given their many alien references over the years and the fact that they released a zombie expansion for the Red Dead Redemption.  And as already stated below, rumours have been floating around for months in regards to a Red Dead Redemption remake, so that was clever use of adding fuel to the already burning fire.

I think it’s fair to say that most of us did take this with a pinch of salt, but the gossip was fun and it was enjoyable being a part of his rumour experiment.  So thank you good sir, now let’s see them aliens for real and raid Area 51!

Original Story: Yep, you’ve read that headline correctly, apparently according to the latest rumours; the rumoured Read Dead Redemption 2 expansion will centre on Arthur Morgan and aliens!  At first, I thought this to be quite absurd, but then again, I thought the same before the release of Undead Nightmare, the expansion to the original Red Dead Redemption, which centred on zombies.

At the time, this was way before developers jumped on the still-rolling, zombie bandwagon.  So as crazy as the idea of Arthur Morgan and aliens sounds, it’s certainly not out of the realms of possibility for developers Rockstar Games.  If this expansion rumour is true, just like Undead Nightmare, it would be non-canon to the main campaign, I assume.  Also it’s worth noting, that Rockstar have used alien references and easter eggs in plenty of their games over the years.  However, you must really take these “rumours” with a tiny pinch of salt and just hearsay at the moment.

The next part of the rumours, also posted by the user on Reddit, claims to have an insider that works as an environmental artist at Rockstar and that a remake of the original Red Dead Redemption is in development, which isn’t the first time we’ve heard of these rumours.  It is claimed that the rumoured remake will make use of all the technology that went into Red Dead Redemption 2, which is great news for not only long-standing fans of the series, but also those that are new, that were introduced with the sequel.  These rumours have been floating around for months, so this one has the most traction of some believably.

However, we could be in for a long wait for the remake if true, because it is said that it won’t release until December 2020 or January 2021.  But if the rumoured RDR2 expansion releases in-between then, hopefully that should do us well to tide us over or you could also read our review of the brilliant Red Dead Redemption 2 here.
