Since the arrival of the awesome The Last of Us and the Playstation 4, rumours have been ripe that a The Last of Us sequel or prequel will be on the cards and it’s something that Naughty Dog is considering.  So while this news doesn’t involve a new game as such, its news that I’m sure will go down very well none the less.

According to Playstations Eurasian Software Marketing Manager Sercan Sulan, he claims that an enhanced version of The Last of Us will release for the PS4 this year, complete with all released DLC including Left Behind.  In an article translated by IGN, when asked about the possibility of a sequel to The Last of Us, Sulan stated that:

There is no information about a new The Last of Us game but I can share this knowledge: as of this summer, The Last of Us will be on the PS4. Both on PSN and physically,” and he went on to say “The PS4 version will also include the DLC so you will be able to play ‘Left Behind’ as well.

While I think that in the era of HD remakes and games such as Tomb Raider Definitive Edition getting a PS4/Xbox One release (as great as that game is), it seems to be a quick and easy trend for publishers to make some extra money.  But while some may think this is a little case of double standards on my part, I believe that The Last of Us is a game more than worthy of an enhanced PS4 port, even so soon after its original release of last year.

The reason that I believe this, is that while The Last of Us has been receiving high acclaim after high acclaim, clearing house at prestigious award ceremonies such as the BAFTA’s, it’s a game that doesn’t have the huge base audience that it perhaps deserves, in comparison to some multiplatform titles with it being a Sony exclusive.

While The Last of Us received well over 3 million sales shortly after its release (and that number has obviously increased since its release).  It’s a game that needs to be played by more gamers and with so many gamers jumping ship from Microsoft to Sony with the PS4, now is perhaps the perfect time for even more gamers that missed its original release to experience The Last of Us.

So many gamers that exclusively owned an Xbox 360 that now own a PS4 would have missed this great game and I’m sure that there will also be many PS3 owners that would also love to play an enhanced version of The Last of Us, myself included. We must remember though that while Sercan Sulan is high up in the Sony Computer Entertainment hierarchy, there has been no other confirmation as of yet from Sony to back up this claim.  But as soon as we hear more, we’ll update you right here.

So while this might not be quite the news that many had hoped, in my opinion it’s still exciting none the less.  But we’d like to hear your thoughts too, so let us know what you think in the comments section below.
