For a while now, Naughty Dog has been working on a standalone multiplayer game set in The Last of Us universe. What’s more, it is believed that this multiplayer game was intended to be released soon after the launch of The Last of Us Part II.

Obviously, that multiplayer game hasn’t arrived, especially when you consider that The Last of Us Part II was released in 2020. It was later believed that The Last of Us multiplayer game would then be released sometime in 2023. Yet, earlier in the year Naughty Dog announced that it was delaying the multiplayer game, but no new release window was announced.

In recent months, reports were making the rounds that The Last of Us multiplayer game is in trouble and may actually be cancelled. However, according to Kotaku sources, the multiplayer game in question is “not completely cancelled” but instead was “put on ice”.

At this time we should take unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, hopefully, there’s no smoke without fire and The Last of Us multiplayer game isn’t dead before arrival.
