Three more characters to be announced for Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D?

With all the footage of high profile console games coming out of Capcom HQ this week, it was rather easy to overlook the new trailer for Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D, a game notable for being one of the few “hardcore” titles on the horizon for Nintendo’s software starved handheld.

While the trailer makes the game look as promising as ever, It seems there’s also a little hint hidden in there that Capcom ain’t quite through with announcing details for the title just yet.

Pause the video at 56 seconds in and you may notice this:

The character select options on the lower screen clearly shows not only the 6 announced playable characters, Chris Redfield, Clair Redfield, Jill Valentine, Albert Weasker, HUNK and Jack Krauser but also two mystery selection boxes. If you then skip a few seconds further there’s also this:

A 9th character portrait below the normal 8 which is also covered by a “?”. I guess we can take this to mean that there’s probably at least 3 more characters yet to be revealed before The Mercenaries ships in June. One of them is likely to be Rebecca Chambers, who hasn’t been officially confirmed by Capcom but was spotted as being playable during a press event a while back. As for the other 2 slots we can only make idle speculation.

What Resident Evil characters would you like to fill out the roster? Personally I’d like to see the other two remaining Resident Evil 4 mercenary mode members Ada Wong and Leon Kennedy make a triumphant return.
