Deadly Premonition 2 Given Release Date
Good news for fans of the weird cult favourite Deadly Premonition, as the release date for its sequel has been announced (entitled A Blessing in Disguise), and it’s not too far in the future.
Firstly, for those who need reminding of this intriguing adventure, the original followed a detective who was sent to a small country town (set in America) to investigate a ritualistic string of murder.
The game was often likened to TV series Twin Peaks due to its weird, otherworldly stylings, and for what unfortunately turned out to be a naff game mechanically speaking, this was what saved it in the end (in fact, though I roll my eyes at the poor graphics and wonky controls, Deadly Premonition became an all-time favourite of mine).
The sequel, as described by the developers, takes place in present-day Boston as a couple of new detectives begin a new investigation into some past serial murders (the Le Carré serial murders).
Along the way they will utilise the memories of first game protagonist Agent York, turning the game into a prequel of sorts (a sequel prequel?).
The press release boast “an open-ended adventure” travelling around the town on foot or, bizarrely, on skateboard; character customisation, including stats for your skateboard; and mini games such as bowling and Bayou rides…
If there’s one thing we can rely on though, it’s that the game will likely be a wacky adventure. Hopefully it will also maintain the charm and wit of the original game as well as some well learned mechanical improvements.
The game has been given a release date of 10th July worldwide. Unfortunately, the game is initially releasing exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, but I for one am holding out hope of some ports in the hopefully not too distant future.
