A new gameplay trailer for Death Stranding: Director’s Cut was revealed at last night’s State of Play.

We also got details on some of the improvements and features that will come with the Director’s Cut, as well as the upgrade cost for existing owners of the PS4 game.

Firstly, as stated in the title, if you already own Death Stranding on PS4 it will cost just $10 to upgrade (UK price TBA). Looking at the cost for the full game on PS5, I’m hoping that the upgrade cost will be around £7.99 in the UK.

Sure, while some games offer a free next-gen upgrade, I think considering all the bells and whistles that version comes with, not to mention new story content, I don’t think it’s a bad deal. And the upgrade process looks to be far simpler to that of Ghost of Tsushima.

If you don’t own Death Stranding on PS4 and want to buy the Director’s Cut outright, the RRP on the PS Store is £44.99/$49.99.

So, what does this Director’s Cut come with? Well in terms of content we will get new story missions, improved combat mechanics, a racing mode, and a firing range. Not bad. It will also come with the previous PC exclusive content such as Half-Life and Cyberpunk 2077.#

In terms of technical improvements, the Director’s Cut will bring adaptive trigger and haptic feedback support for the DualSense controller. Improved sound with 3D Audio, and much faster loading times thanks to the SSD. We’ll also get two modes, Performance Mode with upscaled 4K with a target 60FPS, and Fidelity Mode which has native 4K. Both modes however will also support HDR and ultra-wide screen.

In our review of Death Stranding on PS4, we said that Hideo Kojima’s game is “truly something spectacular.

Finally, Death Stranding Director’s Cut will be released for PlayStation 5 on September 24th. Will you be picking up the Director’s Cut? Let us know across our social media channels.
