Did From Software tease Bloodborne 2 or something completely different? #GameAwards2017

At The Game Awards last week, developers of Demon Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborne gave us a short 30 second teaser trailer.  The video showed a sinister bone twisting weapon or device drenched in cold blood.  Naturally, most of us instinctively thought that this might be a tease for a Bloodborne 2.  However, seeing as this was teased at The Game Awards and with the PlayStation Experience happening the next night, if this was indeed Bloodborne 2, we would hoped to had seen the full reveal at PSX, sadly that wasn’t the case.

So what exactly was this teaser trailer for, if it wasn’t for a Bloodborne 2?  Well, it’s probably too soon to be a new Dark Souls game, but it’s not out of the realms of possibility of being a new expansion for the title.  It could even be the father of the Dark Souls series, Demon Souls, which released exclusively on the PS3 in 2009 with many fans calling for this cult status game to get a modern-day remake.  This possibility could even be fuelled with the recent announcement that the Demon Soul’s servers will be shutting down on February 28th 2018.

But what if this isn’t a Bloodborne, Dark Souls or Demon Souls?  Well many have speculated that it could be two other games from the From Software archives.  One being PS1 classic Tenchu from 1998, a hard as nails stealth ninja game that From Software had co-developed and the teaser trailer also features a seemingly ancient Japanese scroll the in background.  The other being Shadow Tower, a first-person RPG also a PS1 game from 1998, which wasn’t really much of a commercial success outside of Japan.

In the short teaser trailer it says the worlds “Shadows Die Twice” and other then ninja’s stalking and dealing death from the shadows, some of the Tenchu games feature the word “Shadow” in the title and of course, so does Shadow Tower.  However, if you want a true outside chance, then you could look no further than an obscure title by From Software by the name of Kuon, which released on the PS2 in 2004 in Japan and North America, and 2006 in Europe.  Kuon was an eerie survival horror game set in ancient Japan.
