It was announced today at Microsoft’s E3 press conference that Lionhead Studios’ upcoming Xbox One-exclusive Fable Legends will be getting a multiplayer beta later this year.

Lionhead Studios invited aspiring heroes (and villains) to embark on a new adventure with the first gameplay of “Fable Legends,” showcasing its stunning Unreal Engine 4 graphics and a brand-new online experience that pits four players against the series’ first-ever playable evil mastermind. The “Fable Legends” multiplayer beta begins in fall 2014.

The game is set to be a large departure from previous entries in the series, focusing on cooperative gameplay. Fable Legends will feature up to four players working together against a player-controlled villain that will spawn monsters for the heroes to fight.

Players will choose from four characters; Will, Strength and Skill, with an unknown fourth character type possibly representing a jack-of-all-trades.

Below is the gameplay trailer that was on show.
