#E32016 God of War reboot announced, play as an elder Kratos

The new God of War took to the stage with a live demo of the game, in front of a live orchestra.  We learned that while this will be the 4th major outing the series, it will be a reboot.  And despite what some of the rumours led us to believe, we do play as Kratos (albeit older, with a beard and perhaps an alternative version of the God slayer altogether), but the rumours were correct with it being a Scandinavian Norse mythology theme.  It seems like to me that with it being a reboot, the Greek mythology that was present in previous game will now be left behind, so it will be interesting to see this new spin on the series.

In the live demo we saw Kratos training a young boy how to hunt, though we didn’t learn the boy’s identity, during a battle in the gameplay video seen below, he does refer to Kratos as “father”.

No release date was given for God of War, but it’s safe to assume that it will release next year on PS4.  However, you can enjoy the near 10-minute gameplay video below and a batch of new screenshots, as well as marvelling at Kratos’ new beard!
