Nier

A new trailer has been released for the upcoming sequel to 2010’s quirky action RPG Nier.

Sharing the same post-apocalyptic setting as the original game, Nier: Automata takes place after the original’s fourth ending, however supposedly shares no direct story connection (good luck with that one).

Playing as a group of androids organised by ‘The Council of Humanity’, you must fight back against other-worldly invaders who have taken Earth.

The game is touted to maintain the RPG elements of the original Nier while also being a more action focussed game. Settlements, camps, NPCs and other familiar RPG elements should be present, as well as THAT fishing mini game from the original (it’s okay to cry).

The game is looking typically stylish and quirky, just as the original (including one singing robot – take a look at the trailer), and the trailer shows off some pretty cool looking post-apocalyptic settings, including what looks like a jungle (or forest) and a desert.

Perhaps most excitingly is the revelation that the game is being developed by none other than Platinum games – the studio responsible for Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising, among others (it’s actually being developed by the studio’s “younger” members, so perhaps the experience of those listed Platinum titles won’t be put to use, but it’s still a promising nugget of info). It certainly seems to show in the gameplay, with the action looking swift, colourful and incredibly stylish.

Take a look at the trailer below and see for yourself. Otherwise, keep an eye out for more info here as it comes. Nier: Automata is releasing to PS4 sometime in early 2017.
