The first trailer has been revealed for the biographical Sacha Gervasi film Hitchcock, following the iconic auteur’s difficult production period of thriller classic Psycho. With many wondering if Hitchcock had already passed his prime and no studio wanting to be within an inch of his controversial project, he was forced to finance Psycho by himself. But as we all know today, it has become one of the most celebrated thrillers of all time.

The brilliant Anthony Hopkins (in fantastic make-up) will play the accomplished director, with Helen Mirren as his wife Alma Reville. From the trailer, Mirren certainly seems to be a dominant character in the film and Hopkins will be a joy to watch. It will be interesting to see all the different ways in which Hitchcock directed his leading lady, Janet Leigh (played by Scarlett Johansson), into getting the best screams out of her for the movie’s most famous scenes.

Hitchcock arrives in UK cinemas 8th February, 2013.
