It’s here. The first full-length trailer for the hotly anticipated Iron Man 3 has arrived via Apple Trailers – and it looks like it could be the best Iron Man film yet.

Robert Downey, Jr. has always played Tony Stark/Iron Man wonderfully, making him arguably the most popular of the Marvel movie characters with fans all over the globe. But his popularity did not work in his favour for Avengers Assemble. Whilst Tony Stark had some of the best one-liners of the entire film, the writers milked him for all he was worth and let him overshadow other screen-worthy characters that became underdeveloped as a result (such as Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye). Whilst we all know Stark to be the narcissistic rock star of the inventions world with an ego almost as big as his fortune, hogging that much screen time and spouting out so many witty lines overplayed his character far too much. He wasn’t really tested as much as he should’ve been. We haven’t seen Stark pushed to his limits quite yet, nor seen him being hit where it really hurts. He is still too immature, treating the world like his playground even when demigods and alien creatures fly down and attack New York. But that looks like it’s all about to change with Iron Man 3.

We finally get to meet The Mandarin (played by legendary actor Ben Kingsley), Iron Man’s arch nemesis. He is the ultimate enemy, and will attack Stark in every way that will hurt him – destroying his expensive, lavish home; obliterating his collection of Iron Man suits and even threatening the one thing he truly loves: Pepper Pots (Gwyneth Paltrow).

Now is the chance to finally see Iron Man put through his paces. Since Avengers Assemble, he’s been hurting. He has nightmares. He realises the grave consequences of all his battles – he’s made a long list of enemies. He knows now his priorities in life – protecting those he loves. We can see Tony Stark really struggle in his quest to do what’s right, finally becoming a real hero (donning an intriguing new red, white and blue patriotic Iron Man suit).

Iron Man 3 reunites director Shane Black and Robert Downey, Jr. since their 2005 crime/comedy flick Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, in which Downey, Jr. gave one of the best performances of his career. We’ll surely see him top that in Iron Man 3.

Don’t fear, Jon Favreau fans. Even though he’s not directing this time, he’ll still be involved with the project as he becomes Tony Stark’s chauffeur/bodyguard, Harold ‘Happy’ Hogan.

The film releases on 3rd May 2013 in the US, but UK viewers get it a few days earlier on 26th April 2013. Iron Man 3 will also be available in (post-converted) 3D.
