Gearbox attempts yet more necromancy with Aliens: Colonial Marines

You’d be forgiven for believing that movie spin-off shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines was a lost cause. Originally intended to be on the PS2 back in 2001, it was canceled, re-started from scratch by Gearbox Software 5 years later and then faded off into obscurity. Open and shut case of vaporware right? Happens all the time in this business.

However Gearbox Software have, as of late, proven themselves fairly apt in the arts of resurrecting video games that by all accounts should be dead, and it seems they’ve now decided to redirect their new found powers at this rather neglected project. Just to make sure there ain’t any non-believers out there, they’ve even sent us official video evidence confirming the second third coming of Colonial Marines, which I think must be the first piece of promotional material I’ve seen for it in years.

There’s no gameplay footage in the video or anything interesting like that, just confirmation that it’s a direct sequel to the second Alien movie and that it will indeed contain the titular xenomorphs of movie franchise. Basically they just wanted to remind us that the game STILL GOD DAMM EXISTS. For more info than that, we’re just going to have to hold on a little longer for E3 next week. Meanwhile, let’s just pray that Gearbox’s official time frame for actually getting the game finished isn’t just “When it’s done” as I’m not really sure the fabric of reality can possibly withstand that level of irony.
