Sci-fi is becoming an increasingly hard nut to crack. Most ideas have been initialized, copied, rebooted, rehashed etc. If there is one original ideas man still out there though, it’s writer/director Rian Johnson, the megamind behind high-school noir masterpiece Brick and the star-studded, globe-trotting caper The Brothers Bloom. Both films individual in narrative style and littered with twists and turns.

Imagine the glee felt round the cine-world when Johnson announced he would be reuniting  with Brick star Joseph Gordon-Levitt for a science-fiction mind bender that dealt with the central focus of time-traveling hitmen. And imagine the shock when it was revealed that JGL’s would be undergoing a painstaking prosthetic transformation to portray a young Bruce Willis (before you watch the trailer below, it should be notice that Gordon-Levitt’s Bruce impression is BANG on). Throw Jeff Daniels and Emily Blunt into the mix as the presumed villain and love interest, and wham-o, the anticipation begins.

Having released a teaser trailer in April, thank goodness we didn’t have to wait too long for a full, action-packed international trailer that only serves to prove that the hype surrounding this film, because of Johnson’s reputation more than anything, is going to provide a pretty big payoff not only for fans of Johnson and JGL, but for film fans who appreciate independent, thinking-man’s sci-fi.

‘Looper’ is released on September 28th via eOne, Film Nation and Endgame Entertainment.
