Latest GT Sport Update Brings Mercedes F1 Car, Tracks, Leagues and Microtransactions

The latest update from Gran Turismo Sport is now live, which brings us some new cars, competitions, tracks, customisable decals and microtransactions.  Yep, quite oddly after Turn 10 Studios announced that microtransactions will be soon removed for Forza Motorsport 7 and will also not feature in Forza Horizon 4, Sony announces that GT Sport will now feature microtransactions, but more on that later.

Let’s focus on the free content that update 1.23 will bring.  Firstly, we have 7 new vehicles, including Lewis Hamilton’s championship winning Mercedes-AMG F1, which will be accompanied by its own GT League competition.  The list of new cars can be found below:

  • Mercedes-AMG F1 W08 EQ Power+ 2017
  • Daihatsu Copen Active Top ’02
  • Honda Beat ’91
  • Honda S660 ’15
  • Ferrari 250 GTO CN.3729GT ’62
  • Ford GT LM Spec II Test Car
  • Mazda 787B ’91

The new track circuit will be Lake of Sainte-Croix located in France and this will be a 10km course with three different layouts, including being able to play the track in reverse, which makes it a total of 6 possible race variants.

In terms of GT Leagues, there will be three new leagues in total, including the previously mentioned F1 Mercedes League, all three can be found below:

  • Light Weight K Cup – Beginner League
  • Nostalgic Car Festival – Amateur League
  • Mercedes AMG Grand Prix – Professional League

Additionally, the Livery Editor has been improved upon.  Now rather than being restricted to only editing car liveries, players can now customise racing suits and helmets; also a new location to the Scapes Mode has been added with the Tokyo Outer Ring Road.

Finally let’s get on to the newly implemented microtransactions, for which while I will always frown upon them, but they’re not as bad as they could be.  For example, all cars can still be purchased with in-game credits and the progression system has not been tempered with, so the grind for credits won’t be extended to tempt you into the microtransaction shortcut.  Also, the most “priciest vehicles” can only be bought with in-game currency via progression, so there is a cap of sorts to the microtransaction bundles you can purchase.
