A nice big update with regards to new Mega Evolutions and some more details about Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. To begin, Rayquaza will be making an appearance in ORAS and the legend expands to include Rayquaza’s relation to Mega Evolution – unfortunately we will have to wait until the game releases to find out these details!

Rayquaza

As touched on previously Kyogre and Groudon will not have the ability to Mega Evolve, but will have Primal Reversion which will allow them to utilise their ancient powers. Both of these Pokémon will be able to possess a special ability only found in these forms. Primal Groudon will obtain the ability ‘Desolate Land’, which changes the condition of the weather to extremely harsh sunlight. During this weather condition, other Pokémon cannot change the weather again, so moves like Rain Dance, Sandstorm and Sunny Day will fail and Water-type moves will “fizzle out.” Groudon will also have a unique move called Precipice Blades, a powerful attack that hits multiple opponents with an upward surge of sharp rocks.

Primal Kyogre will gain the ability ‘Primordial Sea’ which, much like Primal Groudon, changes the weather condition- but this time to an extremely heavy rain. Pokémon will also not be able to change the weather conditions during this ability and Fire-type moves will now become ineffective. Kyogre’s unique attack, Origin Pulse, will manipulate water into ballistic orbs to attack multiple opponents at once.

Team Magma and Aqua leaders will also have access to Mega Evolution for their Pokémon with Team Magma’s Maxie having a Mega Camerupt and Team Aqua’s Archie using Mega Sharpedo. Maxie wears a pair of “Mega Glasses” that contains the key stone needed to Mega Evolve his Camerupt. Mega Camerupt will have the ability ‘Sheer Force’, which raises the power of all attacking moves that have an additional effect – though all additional effects are ignored. All of Mega Camerupts stats will be raised, apart from its speed which makes it a better Pokémon to utilise second in a fight.

Archie wears a Mega Anchor that is set with his keystone. Mega Sharpedo will gain a boost to all of its stats, and it’s already high attack power will then be further enhanced. This Mega Evolution will gain the ability ‘Strong Jaw’, which raises the power of bite attacks, like Crunch.

If you have played Ruby and Sapphire before, then you will remember Wally – the frail and timid trainer that moved to Petalburg City, and his starter Pokémon Ralts. As the game progresses this time, instead of obtaining a Gardevoir, Wally will have a Gallade and therefore will be able to Mega Evolve it into Mega Gallade. Mega Gallade will have the ability ‘Inner Focus’ which prevents it from flinching in battle. It gets a boost to attack and speed, making it an effective Pokémon for striking first in battle.

Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby will be release for the 3DS and 2DS systems on November 28th.
