New Silent Hill Announced, Kojima, Del Toro, Norman Reedus, Fox Engine, Playable Demo Out Now…That is All!

Silent-Hills

In typical Hideo Kojima fashion he teased us with a Red Herring announcement with a demo apparently called P.T, as it turned out, this demo was in fact for an all new Silent Hill game and it’s looking pretty god dam awesome.  Could Silent Hill finally be turning back into the terrifying survival horror experience that it once was?  Thankfully this is certainly looking the case if this announcement is anything to go by.

Hideo Kojima has talked about his love for the Silent Hill franchise for quite some time and ever since, many fans have been waiting for this to happen (me included), and so this is fantastic news alone.  Even greater news considering the new Silent Hill game will be running on the almighty Fox Engine and one of the horror geniuses of our time, Guillermo del Toro will also be involved in its development.  This itself is a touch of genius, especially if you’ve seen the monster design in Pan’s Labyrinth.  So if he gets his creative juices flowing (which I’m sure he will), then we could be in store for the craziest and downright creepiest Silent Hill monsters ever!

Right before I briefly get on to the demo, lets briefly talk about the announcement trailer.  It begins with a man slowly walking up a dark street, before the camera pans up and reveals that man is none other than Norman Reedus, which fans of the TV series The Walking Dead will recognise as Daryl.  This is possibly the Hideo Kojima influence with his recent trend of getting TV/movie stars involved in his projects, with the likes of Kiefer Sutherland now in Metal Gear Solid as Big Boss.

But the best way in which this unexpected announcement was made, was not by a demo on stage or a simple teaser trailer, or dribbles of information.  The announcement was made by releasing a playable demo on the PSN Store for the PS4!  Yes that’s right; the demo is available to download right now on the PSN Store!

Though there is an announcement trailer (as seen above), my advice would be, by all means watch the trailer/s, but avoid the YouTube demo playthrough’s and experience the demo first hand yourself.  Interestingly at the end of the video (below), it says “Silent Hill’s” rather than “Silent Hill.”  So could this mean the game will be episodic?  I guess we’ll find out more in due course.

Caution the video below shows footage from the demo, so if you want to keep it spoiler free, you might want to avoid.  It then ends with the trailer as seen above.

So go ahead, download and play the demo and sh!t yourself safe in the knowledge that Silent Hill is on its way back.

Also keep a look out for our demo impressions by Harris, coming soon.
