Nintendo Direct Recap – 13/02/19: Hellblade, Final Fantasy, Assassin’s Creed 3 and More!

It was another packed Nintendo Direct event this week, with titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Super Mario Maker 3 and even a Tetris battle royale game called Tetris 99 all being announced for the Nintendo Switch.  You can read up more on those announcements by clicking on the respective videogame name.  So for this article, we’ll recap all the rest of the announcements made from a variety of new games, DLC and release dates.

First up we have a new game announced from Platinum Games called Astral Chain, from the creators of NieR: Automata and Bayonetta.  Astral Chain will release for Nintendo Switch on August 30th.  Also the host of the Nintendo Direct, Yoshiaki Koizumi reminded us that Platinum Games are still hard at work on Bayonetta 3, which still has no release date as of yet.

We also got to see a brand new trailer for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, which will have a rich roster of Marvel favourites and will be playable with up-to four players either locally or online.  Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order will release for the Nintendo Switch this coming Summer.

Fire Emblem: Three House was supposed to release earlier this year, however it was announced that it would be delayed so that the game can have a little more development time.  The new date for the latest Fire Emblem for the Nintendo Switch is now July 26th and to cushion the blow, a new gameplay trailer has been released.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the fastest selling console game in Nintendo’s history and at Nintendo Direct it was revealed that it will be getting a free update this Spring, however oddly, they told us we’ll have to wait on the details, which was odd, even for Nintendo.  They also reminded us that the first fighter, Joker from Persona 5 will be available this coming April as part of the Fighters Pass DLC, which includes a total of five fighters, additional stages and more.  We’ll of course update you when we know what update ver.3.0 will include.

Finally, Nintendo also revealed that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be getting some new Amiibo’s with Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes), Simon (from Castlevania), as well as a Pokémon Trailer, Squirtle and Ivysaur.

The brilliant Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is being ported to the Nintendo Switch this spring, while we did see a trailer, it looked a lot like the PC, PS4 or Xbox One version, so I have my doubts as to whether this was the Switch version in action.  Hellblade on the Nintendo Switch will be ported by QLOC, who have also worked on DmC: Devil May Cry, Resident Evil 4: Ultimate Edition, Resident Evil 6 and Street Fighter X Tekken all on PC, to name but a few.

The PvP horror survival game, where a group of players takes control of students trying to survive from a serial killer, while one player assumes control of said serial killer, Dead by Daylight is coming to the Nintendo Switch this autumn.

Already coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One, Assassin’s Creed 3: Remastered is now coming to the Nintendo Switch on May 21st.  While this version won’t of course be in 4K, it will have “revamped gameplay” as well as motion and touch screen controls to make use of the Switch’s features.  It will also come with all previously released DLC, as well as Assassin’s Creed: Liberation Remastered.

The sequel to EA’s much loved indie developed Unravel is coming to the Nintendo Switch on March 22nd, with Unravel Two. Whether you play on your lonesome or co-op with a friend, this game should delight many players when it arrives for the Switch next month.

It may have released way back in 2014 on last-gen consoles, but GRID Autosport is now coming to the Switch this summer.  It will feature all previously released DLC, as well as 100 cars and 100 circuits to enjoy.  You’ll also be able to play it offline, and online against other players.

From the developers that brought us the indie darling Undertale, Deltarune is coming to the Nintendo Switch on February 28th.  Chapter 1 will be free of charge, but you’ll have to pay for the rest of the episodes that follow.

As of now, Final Fantasy IX is available to download for the PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.  We also learned that Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon EVERY BUDDY! will release on March 20th, followed by Final Fantasy VII on March 26th for the Switch.

Indie title inspired by the likes of Castlevania and Metroid, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is coming to the Nintendo Switch this summer.

The puzzle game Boxboy! + Boxgirl! Is returning to the Nintendo Switch with a brand new game that features over 270 puzzles that are playable on your own or via co-op with a friend.  For those that complete the game, you’ll also unlock a new adventure, Qudy. Boxboy! + Boxgirl, all of which releases on the Nintendo eShop on April 26th.

Courtesy of a free update, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is getting some DLC that adds new levels to take on, whether it’s on your own or co-op with a friend.  Then on March 14th, there will be some paid DLC that adds a total of 18 new challenges, which includes five new courses and new Shiny Crowns to acquire.  For those that pre-order the paid DLC on the Nintendo eShop, will get early access to “one” of the courses…YAY!

From now, there is a free playable demo for Daemon X Machina, which includes four missions from the full campaign and players will be able to sample some of the mech customisable features.  For those that partake in the demo, they may be selected to complete an online survey to provide feedback, lending a hand towards the games development.  Daemon X Machina will release for the Nintendo Switch this summer.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition is coming to the Nintendo Switch this autumn.  This beloved classic will be revamped with HD visuals and the unique control features that only the Switch can provide.  Likewise, the popular crafting/RPG hybrid, Dragon Quest Builders 2 is also coming to the Nintendo Switch on July 12th.

Oninaki, an action RPG from developers Tokyo RPG Factory is coming to the PC, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch this summer.  Fight enemies, take their souls and use them to gain strength and new abilities.  You can watch the Oninaki gameplay trailer below.

Party game, Disney Tsum Tsum Festival is coming to Nintendo Switch sometime this year, though we have no solid release date at this time.  Tsum Tsum Festival will include a whole host of mini-games to play on your own or with up-to four players, offline or online.
