Following on from the previous announcement of the Pokémon Art Academy releasing in Japan, we have received details regarding the European release.  It will be gracing the 3DS stores on the 4th July this year!

The first Art Academy made its début back in 2009, which offered budding artists or people interested in drawing a virtual art studio with various lessons to teach basic skills. The first games concentrated more along the lines of traditional art, and this iteration of Art Academy will take players through the motions of learning to draw Pokémon.  Professor Andy will teach players to draw Pokémon, beginning with starter ‘Pokémon‘ and working their way up to “legendary masterpieces”.

Pokémon Art Academy introduces two new mediums for drawing – markers and airbrushes, so you’ll see that in addition to the recurring pencils, pastels and paints. Markers will make block colour with clean edges, whereas airbrushes will allow you to make a fine graduation of colour. On top of all those, there’s a new Outline Pen being added, which will leave a smooth line that can’t be coloured over to make your drawings look more crisp and sleek.

There will be 40 lessons that will teach players how to draw their favourite Pokémon throughout the series, including newest releases Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. Players can work their way through 4 different levels of lessons beginning with Starter, and then advancing to Novice, Apprentice and then Graduate courses. In the earlier lessons, you will be taught how to draw Pokémon profiles, then eventually learning how to build Pokémon out of shapes and the moving on to shading and depth of drawing that brings the characters to life.

Another new addition to the Art Academy series is to allow you to place your completed artwork on a pre-existing background of your choice.  Once you feel more comfortable drawing Pokémon, you can play around with the Free Paint mode where you’re left to your own devices. There are over 100 reference pictures for you to take inspiration from and you can even import pictures from your 3DS camera into the game. There’s a new “Quick Sketch” mode that will allow you to get right into making short, simple drawings for practise or while you’re on the move. All your art can be stored in an album which you can share either locally with other Pokémon Art Academy players, or you can post them to the online Miiverse for other gamers to view.

Start your Pokémon-drawing journey on July 4th 2014 available via the Official Nintendo Online Store, at retail or as a digital version from the Nintendo eShop.
