Resident Evil 7 Announced for Nintendo Switch, as a Cloud Game for Japan

Ok, well this one seemingly came out of nowhere like Randy Orton delivering an RKO, but Resident Evil 7 is releasing for the Nintendo Switch this week, which is great news, for Japan at least.  What’s strange about this release, other than its sudden announcement and being exclusive to Japan (at least for now), is that it will be a cloud game.  What this means is that the Resident Evil 7: Cloud Version won’t have a physical release, nor will it be downloadable in the traditional sense, but instead it will be streamed to your Nintendo Switch via the cloud, so you will always require an online connection to play.

Also to add further strangeness to this release, you won’t be able to buy it outright, but instead you’ll pay 2000 yen (about £13) to play the game for 180 days.  This version of the game will include all DLC such as Banned Footage Vol.1 and 2, End of Zoe and Not a Hero.  There will also be a playable demo for up-to 15 minutes on the Japanese eShop.  It’s also been confirmed that the title will not be translated in English, as only Japanese is supported.

Hopefully Resident Evil 7 will release on the Nintendo Switch in other regions, though I’m not too keen on the streaming via a cloud aspect, but I suppose it’s a way for the platform to counter the high download file size that the full game would demand.
