Sci-fi Horror Strikes with Dark Skies Trailer

Can an interesting twist save Dark Skies from succumbing to the failures of the modern horror film? As the trailer appears online, one can’t help but groan as yet another suburban-family-attacked-by-paranormal-threat movie appears on the scene (particularly after the lacklustre Paranormal Activity 4), yet the sci-fi twist is intriguing. As each member of the family becomes possessed in some way (rather than just a few odd members, as in many horror films of this ilk), perhaps Dark Skies doesn’t want to adhere to the formulaic structure and wishes to surprise us… for once.

With Scott Stewart helming the project – director of the widely panned movies Legion and Priest – one can’t help but fear for Dark Skies, but his vast experience with effects work (in films such as Iron Man, Sin City and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) should make for some very interesting scenes. This feels as if it could either be Invasion of the Body Snatchers for a new generation, or a massive disappointment.

We’ll know for sure when Dark Skies releases on February 22nd 2013.
