The next game in Team 17’s popular Worms’s franchise, Worms Battlegrounds finally has a release date. With its zany humour and vast arsenal of wacky weapons the Worms series has graced almost every console and now the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One can join them and gamers can cause next-gen worm-based mayhem on May 30th in Europe and June 3rd in North America.

The series’ next-gen debut will be also be released as both a digital download and boxed retail versions for those who still are a little wary of getting their games via digital distribution.

Game features are as followed:

  • 25 single player missions
  • 10 ‘Worm‐Ops’ time attack missions
  • 5 environments with day and night transitions
  • Online and local multiplayerCustom landscape editor
  • Clan support and emblem editor
  • 65 weapons and utilities including 10 brand new items to the series
  • Physics based hazards and objects
  • Over 200 customisation items for the worms

PlayStation 4 owners will also get special light bar colours depending on your worms scenario and the option to use the touchpad as a quick select for weapons.

Check out the launch trailer above and the screenshots below to see what to expect. Very little has changed, but why mess with such a successful formula? All Worms veterans will want are cartoon worms blowing each other up while spouting cheeky one-liners and occasionally walking on a mine.
