Speaking with GamesTM, Visceral Games General Manager Steve Papoutsis said that he’d love to return to making a new Dead Space in the future by saying “There’s definitely a lot of interest internally for us to pick that up again at a future date.”  He also said that while Visceral are busy working on Battlefield: Hardline prior to its release “Many, many people here at Visceral have a warm spot in their heart for Dead Space, and right now we’re busy with Hardline and…other things… but it’s definitely something we’d love to look at again,

If you’re familiar with the Dead Space series, then you would know that the first game is considered to be among the best games within the survival horror genre (just watch the E3 2008 trailer above), but by the time the series reached the third and final game, it was an action based shadow of its former self, with very little scares and practically no tension.  Dead Space 3 did not meet its sales expectations (which for me is likely down to the direction that the series went), which cast doubts as to whether publisher EA would return back to the series.

While I am happy to hear these words from Steve Papiutsis, I do have concerns as to whether the game will return to its survival horror roots or if it will continue its action trend.  But hopefully with the revival of the genre with recent games such as Alien: Isolation, The Evil Within and the P.T/Silent Hills demo, EA may hopefully see sense in bringing back the Dead Space series to where it belongs.

Battlefield: Hardline will release from March 17th for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
