Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, sequel to last year’s surprisingly good Rise of the Planet of the Apes, is in the works and is set to release in the US on May 23rd, 2014, Empire reports. There are not many plot details as of yet apart from the fact that the film will be a set a into the future during the downfall of the human race, but Rupert Wyatt will return to helm the project and Andy Serkis will reprise his role as the courageous chimpanzee Caesar.

Perhaps it would be interesting for James Franco to return as Will, as his return would provide emotional scenes with Caesar – would Caesar feel a conflict in knowing that his former friend is going to die from the viral pandemic of the original film and that he (and his kind) will inherit the earth? Would Will feel guilt for having caused the downfall of mankind?

Watch this space for more details on the project as more information emerges.
