Whilst Avengers Assemble has currently taken the superhero limelight, The Dark Knight Rises kicks its viral marketing into gear with a worldwide hunt.

The official website – http://www.thedarkknightrises.com/ – reveals an investigation file on the Batman (who will be reprised by Christian Bale), complete with an arrest warrant (signed by his friend Commissioner Gordon, who will be reprised by Gary Oldman) for 6 counts of first degree murder (including two police officers and former DA Harvey Dent, aka the villain Two Face, played by Aaron Eckhart), 3 counts of kidnapping (of Commissioner Gordon’s family), one count of resisting arrest, 15 counts of aggravated assault of a police officer and 4 counts of various criminal weapon possessions. He has been denied bail. We know from the events of the previous instalment, The Dark Knight, that Batman vowed to take responsibility for Dent’s crimes, as he didn’t want Dent’s public image to be destroyed. The end of the film indicated how hotly Batman would be targeted for taking on this burden, and according to the file this has become very true.

The deputy commissioner of Gotham’s police department, Peter Foley, has attached a letter in the file asking for efforts to apprehend the Batman to be increased before ‘Harvey Dent Day’ (presumably a memorial day for Dent’s death). He includes a long list of worldwide locations where Batman has been sighted and asks evidence – photographs of graffiti related to the Batman seen at these locations – to be sent to #tdkr07202012 on Twitter or e-mailed to tdkr07202012@gothampolicedepartment.com

In the UK, these locations include:

– Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, Shoreditch, London

– Ramillies Place, London

– Chalk Farm Road, Camden

– Waterloo Tunnels, London

– Portobello Road, Notting Hill, London

What exactly will we find there? What will the reward be?

The Dark Knight Rises releases on July 20th 2012 in the UK.
