Blackbeard's… Daughter?

Cruz’s Role In Pirates 4 Revealed… For those of you who are unaware Pirates 4 will be titled – Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. BUT did you know Penelope Cruz (confirmed to star on February 11th) will be playing Blackbeard’s Daughter?

"She brings a lot of humor to it," says producer Bruckheimer, and reveals that Cruz is "feisty", and that there’ll be "a little romance between Captain Jack and the character that Penelope plays."

Blackbeard (as announced on February 23) will be played by Ian McShane, but Bruckheimer also confirms the rumours that he’ll have roguish piratical competition from Geoffrey Rush, who will be returning as Captain Hector Barbossa.

Sounds like the only real connection to Tim Powers’ novel (On Stranger Tides, the bases of the films plot) is the search for the Fountain of Youth, but as it has a fresh start and adds a new direction to the series I’m quite optimistic. Rob Marshall is directing, replacing the previous trilogy’s Gore Verbinski, and filming starts in June, for a 2011 summer release.
