Gotham’s Dark Angel Returns… With Friends?

GREAT NEWS! If like me you are a comic buff and enjoyed the latest Batman film you’ll be happy to know Christopher Nolan has signed on to direct the sequel to 2008’s ‘The Dark Knight’. Other details are scarce, but Warner Bros has revealed the untitled movie will be released on 20 July 2012. So who will be joining Christian Bale’s Batman in the eagerly awaited movie? I looked at some of the possibilities:

  Robin
Studio bosses are always desperate to get a younger audience, with a teen sidekick usually their preference (look at the latest Indiana Jones). But will we see Robin in Christopher Nolan’s Batman universe? I’d say it’s a long shot, with both Nolan and Bale distancing themselves from the idea. However, Nightwing is another story, just as audience pulling (if not more) as Robin without losing the dark edge.

Catwoman
We’ve already had the likes of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry donning the cat suit – why not Megan Fox? Maybe because she is too young! There are many rumours about the Transformers star playing our favourite feline burglar, but i think someone more mature is needed for this role perhaps Maggie Gyllenhaal will return in the follow-up to The Dark Knight, this time donning a catsuit…

Sadly Angelina Jolie rumours are not actually true, because after seeing Jolie in the dominatrix outfit she wears at the beginning of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, I’d be perfectly fine seeing her wear another tight black costume for a possible third Christopher Nolan-directed Batman movie.

The Riddler
The masked prankster seems the favourite to appear as Batman’s nemesis in the movie – with Johnny Depp long rumoured to be up for the part. But there is the possibility it could become Public Enemies: Halloween Special – do we really want that!?

Mr Freeze
Arnold Schwarzenegger played the super villain in the much-criticized Batman & Robin, which wasn’t the worst of the old ones in my opinion. However, if Nolan decided to tackle ‘scientist who ends up having to wear a cryogenic suit after treating his terminally ill wife’ it will surely be done without reverting to a bad 1980s sitcom.

Bane
Horribly underused in Batman & Robin, and warped beyond any recognition into a simple, mute brute. The huge muscular villain caused a stir in the comic book universe after he crippled Batman, leaving him wheelchair-bound for a long time. Due to his physique, I can only imagine a wrestle-turned-actor like Stone Cold Steve Austin or The Rock playing the part.

Harley Quinn
Now lets face it, we all at some point have had a little thing for this naughty girl at some point, especially since Arkham Asylum pimped her our with an all new Nurse outfit, we doubt that The Joker will appear again – who would dare try fill Heath Ledger’s shoes (or be allowed?) But his crazy comic book sidekick Harley Quinn could be a possibility. Still desperate to see Megan Fox? Maybe here is were…

The Penguin
One of Batman’s most iconic enemies is The Penguin – an upper class villain with a fondness for deadly umbrellas. If the rumours are true that Philip Seymour Hoffman is being considered I couldn’t be happier to welcome this poultry enemy back to the silver screen.

Do you have any thoughts? If so please let us know below.
