Hesher – New trailer released

Natalie Portman’s latest film, Hesher, is maybe not what everyone is expecting. The newly released trailer sees Portman as a dowdy, spectacle-clad store clerk, a far cry from the slightly mental ballerina she played in the multi-Oscar nominated Black Swan. This small budget independent film starring Portman alongside Rainn Wilson (Juno; The Office), and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception; 500 Days of Summer), tells the story of a little boy coping with his mother’s death and his father’s grief.

Portman plays the only main female character, (minus a wise-cracking Grandmother) and her role seems slightly predictable, as do most of them to be honest. The story seems to appear as an overly dramatic and emotionally fraught narrative, but with some heart-warming touches of friendship thrown in. Whilst it may seem just at a glance, as slightly predictable, it does look like something different to anything the stars have been in before, and has also received an array of fairly positive reviews from the Sundance Film Festival. Does the film seem predictable or are you simply excited to see these names in such an indie film?the aftermath of her Black Swan performance, some which I fear won’t pay off, but for the moment, I see Hesher only aiding in her recognition.

Hesher is released in the UK at the beginning of April.
