Julianne Moore and Gabriella Wilde are both set for the remake of 1976 horror classic Carrie, the film based upon Stephen King’s novel which sparked the careers of Hollywood icons John Travolta and Sissy Spacek, Deadline reports.

The film follows socially ostracised teen Carrie White, who discovers that she possesses strong telekinetic powers that flare when she is angry. As she becomes more and more humiliated by her classmates, school faculty and her own abusive mother, she finds herself becoming more aware of these powers and begins to use them against those who harm her.

In the remake of the film, Moore will play the role of Margaret White, Carrie’s unhinged fundamentalist Christian mother (formerly played by Piper Laurie), whilst Wilde will play the part of Sue Snell (previously portrayed by Amy Irving). They join Chloë Grace Moretz, who will star as Carrie White, in the cast list. As a serial Academy Award nominee, Moore will surely do justice to the iconic performance Laurie provided in the original.

The film will be directed by Kimberly Peirce, and is due out in 2013.
