A new poster for upcoming chiller The Conjuring has arrived, and it looks seriously creepy. An eerie mist plus a farmhouse plus a noose hanging with a ghostly shadow equals one recipe for destroyed underwear.

Just the subject matter of the film is terrifying – based on the real paranormal investigations of Ed and Lorraine Warren (played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Fermiga in the biopic), the film follows a family (including Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor and Joey King) living on Rhode Island who hire the duo to check out some suspicious supernatural activity before the investigators realize the problem is much bigger than they thought.

Horror films have been a bit lacklustre as of late, so here’s hoping James Wan, director of Saw (the good one!) and Insidious can put the beloved genre back on track with this new feature. The trailer certainly looks to put Para-snore-mal Activity to shame – never before have a pair of clapping hands looked so scary. The game seems reminiscent of that wonderful knocking game scene in The Orphanage, and hopefully The Conjuring will echo some of that creepiness.

Perhaps we can put that abominable The Haunting remake behind us, Lili Taylor?

The Conjuring releases in the UK on July 19th, 2013.
