Robert Pattinson Rumoured to Star in Hunger Games Sequel
Twilight actor Robert Pattinson has been linked to a role in Catching Fire, the upcoming sequel to the smash hit blockbuster The Hunger Games, TMT reports. This may come as no surprise to some as The Hunger Games and its marketing was compared to the Twilight series. Pattinson made it clear recently that he recognises the popularity of the series and realizes that is overshadowing the Twilight series, telling Telegrama magazine:
“I feel like the frenzy is starting to die down. We step into the era of The Hunger Games, the world wants fresh meat!”
The Hunger Games film franchise is owned by Lionsgate, who also own Summit Entertainment (the studio behind the Twilight series), so it would make sense that one of the studio’s most popular actors could bring an even bigger audience to Catching Fire.
If the rumour were true, it would also reunite the Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence with the actor, who both worked on 2011’s Water for Elephants.
Pattinson has been linked to the role of District 4 tribute Finnick Odair, victor of the 65th Hunger Games. In Catching Fire, he, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) and other former Hunger Games victors are called back by the Capitol for a special edition of the brutal survival exercise in the ‘Third Quarter Quell’ for the 75th Hunger Games – every 25 years, there is an interesting twist added to the Hunger Games – in this case, all the tributes are former Hunger Games victors.
Whilst this move would make a lot of sense for the studio to commit to for the aforementioned reasons, this could perhaps destroy the prestige that The Hunger Games has earned for being the anti-Twilight (whilst the love triangle aspect of the film was prominent in marketing, it did not dominate the film; and the heroine Katniss has been praised as being the antidote to the passive Bella Swan).
