Independence Day director Roland Emmerich is currently in talks to direct action-drama White House Down, scripted by James Vanderbilt (who wrote the screenplay for The Amazing Spider-Man and Zodiac), Deadline reports. Sony paid $3 million for the spec script last week from Vanderbilt. With its plot compared to Die Hard, the film follows a paramilitary seizure of the White House. Production is expected to commence in autumn this year. As a director of other action based films like The Day After Tomorrow and 2012, we can certainly expect a great spectacle with White House Down, although Emmerich’s action sequences do tend to err on the destructive side – perhaps he will restrain the chaos this time?
